An early morning run over to Ogwen Valley, sods law I went up the wrong side of the valley. All the cloud was over the Glyders and the nice light was on the Carneddau.
A few early edits of photos from Cosford airshow 2018. It was a great show this year with plenty of action in the sky including some jets and planes I’d never seen flying before. A family free afternoon at Chester Zoo meant I was able to spend a bit of time with the Orangutans and see these amazing creatures at play. Old Man of The Forest Golden Weaver
The Cambrian Rally put pay to a day of mountain biking but a visit to Llanddwyn Island was a good consolation prize.
Nant Yr Arian feeds wild Red Kites every day, I thought there may be 1 or 2 but hundreds come to visit, it’s hard to know where to point the camera.
I recently had the pleasure or a days’ photography course with Simon Kitchin of Landscape Photography UK. It was a great day photographing Ogwen Valley despite some challenging conditions in the morning. Here’s a few pictures to start with.
A great summer holiday in the highlands with the family, but time for a few photos as well. Here are the ones without the kids jumping all over the shot…
Some photos from Rhyl Air Show. it was a great show this year with some interesting planes. The Bronco was very colourful in the sky and the Pitt’s of the Trig team and the RV8’s of Team Raven both put on a great aerobatic show.
The sun was out and so were the crowds on Sunday at Chester Zoo, but the animals were too and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The elephants splashed in the pool while the orangutans adopted a more thoughtful approach.
A few early edits of photos from the Cosford Airshow 2017. A great line up this year and some unusual aircraft, the B1B Lancer looking very threatening as it did its flypast.
Chester Zoo today – loads of crowds as the day wore on but a few early shots came out [justified_image_grid ng_tags_gallery=’blog_210217′ orderby=date_asc]

A very generous Fathers Day present saw me at Knowsley Safari Park for a dusk Owl experience with WIld Arena Photography. The event nearly got off to a rocky start when an animal incident meant that the safari drive part of the park was shut, nearly trapping the Wild Arena team in their house, but luckily they made it out in time. For the evening they showed us a great variety of owls and helped us to get good shots […]
A wet and dull day, but a few of the animals were out to play so i was able to get a couple of photos. I was using the Sigma 150-600 and it gave some great results at lower shutter speeds than I was expecting. The VR really seems to kick in around the 1/400 to give sharp results even at 600mm handheld. [justified_image_grid ng_tags_gallery=’blog_100716′ orderby=date_asc]
I made the annual trip to Cosford this year for the 2016 Cosford Airshow, but with the family in tow this time. It only took 20 minutes before the protests of boredom started so I had a little less time to spend on the photography and a lot less money after they’d cleaned me out on the funfair. I’ve yet to get a really good day at Cosford for the weather, grey clouds always seem to be the norm which […]
Now I’ve had a bit more time with the Fujifilm XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 I’m beginning to appreciate its positives for my style of zoo photography (quick shots hand held whilst being hastled by my small children!). Let’s get the negatives out of the way first. I still don’t trust the autofocus to get a shot if there is a lot of movement going on. WIth my Nikon setup I knew I could raise the camera to my eye, focus in a […]
I had the chance today to try out the new Fuji 100-400 zoom at Chester Zoo. Initial thoughts are the weight saving over my current NIkon kit is very welcome, but the autofocus is limiting in some circumstances. More to follow. [justified_image_grid ng_tags_gallery=20160410 row_height=300]
Here’s a few from the weekend when I visited Chester Zoo. The weather was terrible but at least it kept the crowds down. The elephant photos were taken in the dark of the elephant house while the cassowary ones were shot form the boat trip in the new Islands exhibit. I had a very pleasant surprise to find that my flying mandrill picture won 3rd place in the Chester Zoo Animating photography contest. It and the other winners can be seen here.
I was very pleased this week to find that I’d had a win in the works fortnightly photography contest. The theme was Black and White portraits and I took a bit of a risk entering a Chimpanzee photo, but everyone seemed to like it. The weekly competition is on Flickr here.
